Edwardchristhoper.blogspot.com - Jakarta: Selama ribuan tahun lamanya manusia membayangkan apakah ada kehidupan di alam semesta sana. Tapi kini, teknologi untuk menemukan itu akhirnya tersedia.

"Setelah 50 tahun, kemanusiaan kini berada pada satu era yang bisa memberikan data mengenai apakah ada kehidupan lain di alam semesta," kata Mary Voytek, Kepala Astrobiologi Badan Ruang Angkasa AS (NASA), kepada Kongres AS.

Untuk menemukan kehidupan ekstraterestrial, entah mikroba atau kehidupan cerdas, para ilmuwan memerlukan teleskop yang mampu mendeteksi planet-planet seperti bumi yang bertetangga dengan bumi. Selain itu juga memerlukan cara untuk mendeteksi tanda biologis kehidupan atau tanda-tanda teknologis makhluk asing.

Pada 4 Desember lalu, para pakar astrobiologi telah meminta Kongres AS untuk berinvestasi untuk babak berikutnya pencarian kehidupan di luar bumi.

"Ini pertama kali dalam sejarah umat manusia kita memiliki jangkauan teknologis dalam menemukan kehudupan di planet-planet lain," kata Sara Seager, ilmuwan keplanetan pada MIT, kepada Komisi Sains, Ruang Angkasa, dan Teknologi DPR AS.

"Manusia akan mengenang kita sebagai (generasi) yang menemukan dunia-dunia seperti bumi," sambung dia.

Asrobiologi, ilmu yang mempelajari asal, evolusi, distribusi, dan masa depan kehidupan di alam semesta, telah mencapai kemajuan pesar dalam beberapa tahun terakhir.

"Astrobiologi telah menjadi sebuah tema besar dalam semua usaha sains luar angkasa NASA dan penting untuk terus mendanainya," kata anggota Kongres dari Demokrat, Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Misi Kepler telah mengidentifikasi lebih dari 3.500 planet potensial di luar sistem tata surya, termasuk 10 yang seukuran bumi dan berada di zona bisa ditempati kehidupan dalam bintangnya.

Teleskop ruang angkasa Hubble dan Spitzer baru-baru ini secara langsung merekam gambar atmosfer sebuah eksoplanet, sementara penjelajah Mars, Curiosity, menemukan bukti kondisi masa silam Planet Merah itu bisa ditempati kehidupan.

Di bumi sendiri, para ilmuwan menemukan contoh-contoh mikroba yang bisa hidup dalam lingkungan-lingkungan paling ekstrem, dari danau vulkanik sampai gletser.

Bagian kunci dari upaya ini akan menyelidiki tanda biologis dalam atmosfer planet lain. 
Contohnya, oksigen tak berdiri sendiri, sehingga keberadaan oksigen menunjukkan organisma hidup yang memproduksinya.

Bagian penting lainnya dari kehidupan di bumi adalah air, dan para ilmuwan telah menemukan bentuk air pada atmosfer lima planet kendati planet-planet ini sangat panas dan seukuran Jupiter.

Teleskop TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) milik NASA yang akan diluncurkan 2017, akan mencari eksoplanet-eksoplanet dengan menggunakan metode perjalanan yang digunakan misi Kepler dalam mendeteksi planet-planet yang melintasi muka bintang yang diorbitnya.

Teleskop Ruang Angkasa James Webb yang akan diluncurkan pada 2018, akan memotret lebih dekat beberapa planet yang dideteksi TESS.

Akhirnya para ilmuwan ingin langsung mencitrai planet-planet, namun upaya ini membutuhkan pemblokiran cahaya satu bintang sehingga sebuah planet bisa terlihat.

Caranya adalah dengan menggunakan penyerta teleskop bernama koronograf internal dan membuat bayangan bintang yaitu objek raksasa seperti bunga yang bisa dipindah-pindah di ruang angkasa. 
Para ilmuwan perlu mencoba kedua metode ini untuk membutkikan salah satunya bekerja, kata Seager.

Estimasi paling optimistis untuk menemukan kehidupan dalam satu dekade ini mungkin adalah teleskop James Webb, kata Seager.

Namun dia mengatakan pendekatan yang lebih realistis dibutuhkan, termasuk teleskop generasi mendatang untuk menggantikan teleskop James Webb. Lalu didapatlah prospek kehidupan cerdas.

Sejarawan ruang angkasa Stephen Dick menyerukan pembaruan upaya mencari kehidupan berkecerdasan melalui pencarian berkecerdasan ekstraterestial (SETI).

"Tak ada isyarat biologi yang akan lebih penting daripada sinyal radio," kata Dick seperti dikutip space.com. (Antara)

UFO files reveal British Ministry of Defence monitors anti-gravity research

In the recent batch of UFO files released by the UK National Archives, among the masses of letters sent to the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) asking about extraterrestrials, one also asks that the MoD to release the truth about anti-gravity technology that is being hidden from the public. The MoD boffins replied that they do not currently have any anti-gravity projects, but they are aware of and monitor research in this field.

The letter in question is quite lengthy and asks that the truth about extraterrestrials and anti-gravity being hidden from the public be revealed. It was sent in January of 2009 to Anne Moffat, a Scottish Labour Party politician, who was then a member of the British Parliament. She forwarded the email to the MoD for a response. The files show that someone in the MoD then asked the science division for help answering the bit on anti-gravity.
The reply was rather interesting. They wrote:

Although the MoD is aware of anti-gravity and gravity modification research, the Department does not currently have any research programmes into this field. The MoD does continue [to] monitor these types of development through our Horizon Scanning activities to assess whether such technologies could be of any benefit to defence in the future.

The letter also suggested that the reader review an article on anti-gravity written by a member of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), a science department of the MoD. The referenced article was not attached, and the link appears to be of a file that resides on the UK government’s internal network. Ultimately, any discussion of anti-gravity did not make it into the standard UFO response that was sent to Moffat.

However, further research does show that Dstl has shown some interest in some of the more controversial theories on anti-gravity. This is all part of what they call Horizon Scanning. One Dstl document defines Horizon Scanning as:

The systematic examination of potential threats, opportunities and likely developments including but not restricted to those at the margins of current thinking and planning. Horizon scanning may explore novel and unexpected issues as well as persistent problems or trends.

Nick Pope, who ran the MoD UFO Desk from 1991 to 1994, elaborates on this idea:

This all has to do with the philosophy of looking at ‘low probability/high impact’ areas, where the chances of a breakthrough discovery are slim, but the payoff is huge if something does turn up. So the philosophy is that you have to be in the game. The other aspect of this is that the only thing worse than not making a game-changing discovery is for somebody else to make it, especially if it’s an unfriendly foreign nation. This is another reason why governments look at ‘weird stuff’ like UFOs, remote viewing, invisibility and anti-gravity.

In a Dstl document from 2005, created by R.L. Jones, some of these technologies are explored. The technologies are called “outside of the box,” and “high-risk high-gain developments.” Some of the anti-gravity technologies include gravity shielding, the Casimir effect, and asymmetric capacitors, also known as the Biefled-Brown effect. The later is explored more in-depth in what is referred to as “lifter” technology.

Lifters are simple devices made out of wire, balsa wood, aluminum foil, and a high-voltage output device. It is argued that these devices demonstrate the Biefeld-Brown effect, and prove this to be an anti-gravity technology. However, it is also suspected the lifting effect is due to the device causing air to move, and not anti-gravity. An episode of Myth Busters tested lifters in a vacuum and could not get them to work, demonstrating to the Myth Busters that there was not a true anti-gravity effect. Jones’ document shows that Dstl built lifters of their own, and he often references the free-energy work of Jean-Louis Naudin, of JNL labs.

Either way, although the MoD has shut the door on UFOs, they may still be open-minded about other unconventional sciences. As Jones explains:

A large proportion of the claims made may be down to poor science/experimental procedure, a sub conscious willingness, nevertheless if any are true then the consequences could be far reaching.

Long before the famous stories emerged about a UFO crash in Roswell ,in 1947, tales of alien spaceships hitting the Earth appeared in 19th Century papers:

"About 35 miles northwest of Benkelman, Dundy County, on the 6th of June [1884] a very startling phenomenon occurred. It seems that John W. Ellis and three of his herdsmen and a number of other cowboys were out engaged in a round-up. They were startled by a terrific whirring noise over their heads, and turning their eyes saw a blazing body falling like a shot to earth. It struck beyond them, being hidden from view by a bank."

The article, from the Nebraska Nugget, goes on to say that the rancher found "fragments of cog-wheels, and other pieces of machinery" lying on the ground. The heat was so intense that "as to scorch the grass for a long distance around each fragment and make it impossible for one to approach..." The group found the main part of the wreck and one of them "fell senseless from the gazing at it at too close quarters. His face was blistered, and his hair singed to a crisp."

"Finding it impossible to approach the mysterious visitor [the UFO] the party turned back on it's trail. When it [the UFO] first touched the earth the ground was sandy and bare of grass. The sand was fused to an unknown depth over a space about 20 feet wide by 30 feet long, and the melted stuff was still bubbling and hissing."

Later in the story the ship is described as being 50 to 60 feet long, cylindrical and 10 to 12 feet in diameter. The writer notes that it was apparently composed of metal with an appearance like brass, but was remarkably light. The story also notes that the wreck is located in a remote and wild region and "the roads are hardly more than trails."

The second story appeared in the Dallas Morning News on April 19th, 1897:

"About 6 o'clock this morning the early risers of Aurora were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship that had been sailing throughout the country. It was traveling due north, and much nearer the earth than before."

The article describes how the air vehicle "sailed over the public square and when it reached the north part of town collided with the tower of Judge Proctor's windmill and went to pieces with a terrific explosion, scattering debris over several acres of ground, wrecking the windmill and water tank and destroying the judges's flower garden." It continues with, "The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only aboard, and while his remains are badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show he was not an inhabitant of this world."

"Mr. T. J Weems, the U.S. Signal Service officer at this place and an authority on astronomy, gives it as his opinion that he [the pilot] was a native of Mars." According to the story the remains of the ship were composed of a strange metal that seemed a mixture of aluminum and silver. The townspeople came to view the wreak and pick up specimens. The pilot was buried the day after the article was published.

So what can we make of these crash stories? Was 19th century Earth visited by extra-terrestrial beings with superior (but apparently faulty) technology?

In viewing any article from 19th century newspapers we must be aware of the abundance of hoax journalism during that period. Newspapers didn't just report news, but also provided entertainment. Much of this was in the form of books that were serialized of a number of issues. Some of it was in another form that is little regarded now: The hoax news story. Both of the above are probably examples of this almost forgotten tradition. How do we know? Mainly because they lack any collaborating evidence. In both cases no follow up stories were ever written which seems strange if events of the magnitude suggested did really occur. Also no pieces of the spaceships have ever shown up in local museums or historical societies.

The Texas incident was investigated in the late 1960's. Then residents of Aurora who were there in 1897 were still alive. None reported that they remembered the crash. Several stated that Judge Proctor never had a windmill. One confirmed that the T. J. Weems mentioned in the story was not a signal officer, but the town blacksmith. Most were of the opinion that F. E. Hayden, who had written the story, was just trying to get some publicity for the town. In addition, a search of the alleged crash site with a metal detector revealed nothing.

The story might have remained dead except for a writer with the Dallas Times Herald. In 1973 the newspaper did a series of sensational stories about the "crash." Despite faulty evidence and questionable witness accounts the stories managed to attract national attention. The excitement reached its peak when an Aurora cemetery was desecrated. The cemetery had kept meticulous records showing just who was buried where and there was no "man from mars" on the roster. Despite this, a plot, that some claimed was the Martian's, was dug up and the tombstone stolen. According to some accounts the tombstone had a picture of an UFO carved into it.

Pada tahun 2007 pemerintah perancis membuat pergerakan yang belum pernah dilakukan sebelumnya yaitu menyusun semua file UFO dari masa lalu, sekarang, hingga untuk yang akan datang dan berharap bahwa ufologi akan dapat memberikan penjelasan yang tidak dapat mereka jelaskan sebelumnya.

Beberapa penampakan UFO yang paling awal terjadi pada perang dunia II. Semua pilot dibuat bingung oleh kemunculan foo fighters yang aneh. Desas-desusnya adalah bahwa Nazi bereksperimen dalam hal ini.

7. Kanada
Banyak kejadian di negara ini, mulai dari sesuatu yg aneh menghilang di hutan atau lingkaran tanaman yang aneh. Kadang-kadang seseorang terluka olehnya seperti Stefan Micholak.
